Nächstes Jahr feiert die legendäre Route 66, die „Mother Road“, ihr 100-jähriges Jubiläum. Sie führt von Chicago, Illinois, nach Santa Monica, Kalifornien. Zu diesem großen Fest werden Tausende von Touristen erwartet, die sehen möchten, wie Amerika vor einem Jahrhundert aussah.
Als die Autobahnen gebaut wurden, wurde die Route 66 umgangen, und die kleinen Städte und Geschäfte entlang der Strecke blieben quasi in der Zeit stehen.
Die Route 66 führt durch den Texas Panhandle, etwa 5,5 Autostunden nordwestlich von Dallas. Sie kommt durch Amarillo, wo man unbedingt die Big Texan Steak Ranch besuchen sollte. Dort gibt es die „72-Unzen-Steak-Challenge“. Wer das ganze Steak schafft, bekommt ein kostenloses Abendessen und ein Foto kommt an die „Wall of Fame“.
Für alle, die das ländliche Amerika lieben, ist diese Reise ein absolutes Muss für jeden Abenteuerlustigen.

Next year is the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road, the iconic Route 66 that runs from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California. It will be a big celebration that attracts thousands of tourists interested in seeing what America looked like a century ago.
When the freeways were built, they bypassed Route 66, and all of the little towns and businesses along the route were basically frozen in time.
Route 66 runs through the Texas Panhandle, a 5.5 hour drive northwest of Dallas. It passes through Amarillo, where you absolutely have to visit the Big Texan Steak Ranch. They have a 72 ounce Steak Challenge. If you can eat the whole steak, your dinner is free and your picture is added to their Wall of Fame.
For people who love small town, rural America, it’s a trip that every adventurous traveler can’t miss.
